The good-girl-gone-bad and Grammy-award winner, Rihanna, is coming to Malaysia for the first time! Her debut concert, Rihanna Live in KL 2009 is scheduled for February 13, 2009, Friday, 8.30pm at Stadium Putra, Bukit Jalil. 

Rihanna Live in KL 2009 is part of the Good Girl Gone Bad Tour, the second world concert tour by the Barbadian singer to support her album Good Girl Gone Bad. It consists of 3 legs with 61 shows and has run for over 6 months, starting in Canada. Supporting acts throughout the tour included Akon, Ciara, David Jordan, Chris Brown and various local European acts during the second European leg. Chris Brown and Rihanna performed 11 shows in New Zealand and Australia, and one show in the Philippines.

Rihanna also performed in Singapore on her first solo Southeast Asian Tour in November 2008. She is coming back for the second leg and Kuala Lumpur and Jakarta has been confirmed as the tour venues.

The Ting Tings will perform their first show of 2009 in Singapore on January 13th at the inaugural BIG Night Out! before headlining Big Day Out 2009 in Australia.

 

The Ting Tings, made up of Jules de Martino and Katie White are heralded the “most exciting new band in the country", according to the NME.

The Prodigy is a legendary cutting edge dance/rock band whose music consists of various styles ranging from rave, hardcore techno and industrial in the early 1990s to alternative rock and big beat with punk vocal elements in later times. The band members include Liam Howlett (composer/keyboards), Keith Flint (dancer/vocalist) and Maxim (MC/vocalist).

 

The English dance electronic act will perform for the first time in Singapore as the headline act of BIG Night Out! - Day 2 @ Fort Canning Park.

Mogwai Live in Malaysia - 21st January 2008

Soundscape Records is proud to announce a one-night-only show for internationally acclaimed instrumental band Mogwai, here in Malaysia. 

With the date set for 21st January, venue at Tuborg Stage, Hall 5, Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, local post-rock fans have a lot more reason to celebrate the brand new year. 

This will be the Scottish rock band's first ever show in Kuala Lumpur, their second in the region. They performed to a raving, smitten, sold-out crowd at Esplanade, Singapore in 2006 - also remembered as one of the loudest shows ever held at the Esplanade. 

On tour for their sixth and latest album, The Hawk is Howling - the band returns to its roots, working again with producer Andy Miller for the first time in a decade. As is expected from the 13-year old band's critically acclaimed brand of instrumental post-rock, The Hawk is Howling is a completely instrumental album - where the only 'conversation' comes from the often intense, sometimes ethereal, but always majestic play of different instruments. 

Formed in 1995 by guitarist Stuart Braithwaite and bassist Dominic Aitchison with Martin Bulloch on drums, John Cummings on guitar and keyboardist Barry Burns, Mogwai is today synonymous with the post-rock genre. After 14 years of exceptional music-making, they are often credited with influencing other reknown 'post-rock' acts such as Explosions In The Sky from Texas, US and Iceland's Sigur Ros, as well as countless names in the rock instrumental, experimental music circuit.

The band’s monicker, "Mogwai", taken from the 1984 creature movie Gremlins, is derived from the Cantonese term for “evil spirit”. Braithwaite however, comments that, "it has no significant meaning and we always intended on getting a better one, but like a lot of things we never got 'round to it." 

Whatever it is, one thing is sure - Mogwai's breathtaking style of music that sometimes leaves listeners hanging in mid-air with euphoria and send them reeling with uncommon energy, is all set to mark Jan 21st as a historical day in Malaysia’s becoming as an international musical stop point. 

To quote an article from The Herald (UK) : " Listening to Mogwai on the stereo only delivers half an experience; this is a band that was born to be heard live. On stage, grandeur and grace trade places with an effect both devastating and delightful" 

Prominent local independent music label Soundscape Records who is known for its knack of bringing quality, sought-after international music acts to the region teamed up with Tuborg to present the region with this extraordinary music event.
